Good Friday

One of my favorite things about my Boo is the way she wakes up at the crack of dawn and jumps out of bed without one tiny little hint of sleepiness and wants to know right away what the day will hold.  She is always the first one dressed in the morning.  Today she jumped in my bed and wanted to know all about our day to come.  I explained to her that this was Good Friday and gave her a quick refresher on what that means.  She quickly ran back to her room and grabbed this book and starting looking for the story.  "Mom, is that story in the Old or the New Testament?"

This book, The Jesus Storybook Bible has become quite a treasure.  It is only a storybook - not a Bible - but it condenses the bible down into an entire readable story that comes in alive to younger listeners.  I love the caption on the back of it  "It tells the Story beneath all the stories in the Bible.  it takes the whole Bible to tell this Story.  And at the center of the Story, there is a baby, the Child upon whom everything would depend.  From Noah to Moses to King David, every story whispers his name.  Jesus is like the missing piece in a puzzle - the piece that makes all the other pieces fit together.

You can see how well-loved ours has become...  So this morning we read through The Last Supper, The Garden of Gethsemane, The Crucifixion, The Resurrection and The Ascension.   I highly recommend this book - really for all ages.  It truly makes the Bible come alive and connect all together - even for grown ups like me!

Then after breakfast I read this little book aloud to everyone.  It's a wonderful living book about a Shopkeeper on main street Jerusalem and his life-changing experience as he witnesses the entire story of Jesus' childhood, death and resurrection first hand.  It's a perfect story to enjoy on Good Friday - it can easily be read in one sitting, about 45 minutes.

And it's beautiful too!

The girls are all excited about making our traditional Resurrection Cookies tomorrow!
