The String Art II Kit - A Timberdoodle Review

The next Timberdoodle product up for review is the String Art Kit II - which is "A super easy way to make string art. The kit includes foam canvases, pins, and pre-printed patterns for a rocket, planet, and a star."

The kit comes with dense foam pads that you can adhere a piece of card stock onto the back of so that your pins don't go through. The pad is printed with these tiny faint white dots that you push the pins into. So much easier than the way we did it back in the 70s with wood, velvet, nails and a hammer! This is MUCH easier on the fingers! :)  The best part is you can sit down and with just a bit of time complete this project in just one sitting. The way we did string art long ago was much more time consuming.

The kit states ages 10 and up and I think that is a great guideline.  While it is a pretty easy activity, my 11-year-old and even the 17-year-old were getting frustrated with the string easily slipping off the pins.  It definitely takes a bit of fine motor skills (and patience) and would be great if you are looking for something to fine tune those skills!

Once all the pins are in place, the fun part of stringing begins! The pins stayed in very nicely in the foam and we never had any issue with them coming out.

The String Art Kit is part of Timberdoodle's 6th Grade Curriculum Kit. You can also purchase it separately by clicking HERE.

Dr. Bonyfide - A Timberdoodle Product Review

I am so honored to once again be a 2017 Official Reviewer and Blogger for Timberdoodle! Timberdoodle is one of my favorite resources for "crazy smart" homeschool supplies and curriculum.   We were recently asked to review the Dr. Bonyfide Presents Bones book series.  We have been a long time fan of the Dr. Bonyfide books. They are so entertaining while at the same time wonderfully educational (like most Timberdoodle products are). These books are full of kid friendly rhymes, games and puzzles all while learning about the bones of the body.  Timberdoodle has included one book in each of their curriculum kits from third grade to sixth grade.  This is a GREAT age range for these books, but you can use all four books at any level.  Even the grown ups in our house enjoy them!

These books are excellent quality with thick pages and have fun and silly illustrations.  There are Latin word roots, pronunciation guides, wise quotes, clever animations, puzzles, games, cartoon stories, and wonderful ways to teach your kids how to stay healthy, fit and active and make healthy life choices.
Boo has discovered her absolute passion in learning all things dance (except tap - but we won't discuss tap....ahem).   This summer her dance studio has been teaching an anatomy class that has lined up perfectly with us reviewing these books!   I continue to see God's hand in our homeschooling journey and I am always fascinated when things like that happen.   She has been spending time with a replica skeleton at the studio and learning songs about the bones and muscles in the body. These books just continue the fun at home!  Of course we have to re-create the pictures we see in the books.

As always, Bentley the world's cutest dog has to give his opinion on Timberdoodle products.  He gives the books two paws up!

Boo is rarely right side up.

The books even come with some 3D glasses for viewing games and puzzles in 3D - another fun bonus!

I love that these books can fit right into our classical education teaching style as well as Charlotte Mason methods that we use for learning.
These books have won tons of awards including Nautilus Book Awards, Parent's Choice Award, Academics Choice Awards, National Parent's Products Awards and more!  We love Dr. Bonyfide books!

I'm giving away the book pictured below to one lucky blog reader - the Dr. Bonyfide Bones of the Rib Cage and Spine - book 3.  All you need to do is leave a comment below - let me know who you are, your email address so I can reach you and what age or ages your kids are - you don't have to be a homeschooler!!   I will choose one lucky winner and will ship it to you free! (inside the US only).

Or you can order your own set of the four Dr. Bonyfide books from Timberdoodle by clicking HERE!

25th Anniversary at the Grand Canyon

It's crazy how fast time flies.  I remember when I was young and heard older people tell me this and I would internally roll my eyes at them.  Yeah, now I know what they were talking about.  Funny how life has a way of doing that to you - the older you get, you realize the less you know.  For our 25th anniversary we decided to cross a bucket list item off - the Grand Canyon!  It was an incredible trip with lots more than just visiting the Grand Canyon, but for now I just want to share these images we had done by a photographer on the Sky Walk.  It was an amazing experience - you had to wear special little shoe covers to keep from scratching the glass skywalk that gave you an unbelievable view.

There have definitely been times in our marriage that we felt like doing this to each other!

But I guess you don't make it 25 years unless there are times like these also.  :)

It was really breathtaking to take in this view with our arms around each other on the exact day of our wedding, 25 years later - almost like gazing back over all the trials and tribulations of all those years.

It was CRAZY to be able to look straight down into the canyon!

(you can see the muddy Colorado river down there!)
We made it Babe! Now here's to another 25 more!
Here are some stock photos that were included in our images - the first one shows the sky walk at the top - so amazing!
